Oppenheimer ticket holders have been warned to arrive early at the cinema, for there will be limited or no trailers on show before the film starts.
Released in cinemas on Friday 21 July, Oppenheimer has been shot by director Christopher Nolan on 70mm film chosen especially for IMAX screens.
The size of the film print means that IMAX theatres would have to switch film projectors between the trailers and featured presentation.
IMAX tweeted: “A special presentation calls for a unique experience. IMAX 70mm showings of Oppenheimer will begin promptly at their scheduled showtimes, without trailers.
“Arrive on time to experience Christopher Nolan’s full vision. Questions? Contact your theatre for more information.”
It is thought that most IMAX screenings will not bother to show trailers in a digital format before switching projectors.
In non IMAX theatres, it is likely that trailers will continue to be shown, though it would seem this decision is being taken on a cinema by cinema basis.
TheDiscFather tweeted: “PSA: To anyone seeing #Oppenheimer in IMAX 70MM, the film will start promptly at the listed showtime and will have no trailers due to the size of the film print.”
Another user tweeted: "OPPENHEIMER IMAX70MM SHOWINGS WILL NOT HAVE TRAILERS.
“Due to the size of the print maxing out the platter size, the movie will start promptly at showtime. Arrive not just on time, but early!"
The user added: "The POSSIBILITY of theatres playing trailers in DIGITAL is there. But it's very unlikely that every theatre will do that then switch to their film projectors for the feature presentation.
“Most theatres will be eliminating that process entirely, so just show up on time!!"
Speaking from personal experience, another profile tweeted: “Just watched 70MM #Oppenheimer which I highly recommend watching it in that format. Just remember this is film so the movie starts within 10 minutes just 2 trailers no ads.”
Oppenheimer has been released on the same day as the highly-anticipated blockbuster Barbie.
On the schedule clash, Cillian Murphy, who plays J. Robert Oppenheimer, told IGN: "I mean, I'll be going to see Barbie, 100%. I can't wait to see it."
He added: "I just think it's great for the industry and for audiences, that we have two amazing films by two amazing film makers coming out the same day."

Likewise, Josh Harnett, who plays Ernest Lawrence in Nolan’s film, told Virgin Radio: “Of course I'll go see Barbie. Actually I know Greta Gerwig. So I'm wishing her all the success in the world.”
Harnett added: “They're coming out on the same day. It seems like a throwback to a different era when people did kind of wait, you know, for Friday, when the films are gonna come out and like, ‘what are you gonna go see?’”
Oppenheimer is a marathon of a film with a running time of three hours.
Viewers have been informed though, that there is no post credit scene.
